The Wolfmen - Married to the Eiffel Tower

Married to the Eiffel Tower by The Wolfmen

MARCO PIRRONI and CHRIS CONSTANTINOU, are also known as WOLFMEN. MARRIED TO THE EIFFEL TOWER is an extraordinary record.  Its leadoff single  JACKIE, IS IT MY BIRTHDAY? features the great Sinead O'Connor duetting with Chris. (Wolfmen also back Sinead on her forthcoming album, which promises to be the crunchiest since Marco worked with her on I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got).  There's a lost Lou Reed song I'M NOT A YOUNG MAN ANYMORE. There are songs about reality and fakery. There are beats and there are riffs.  And there's production and stuff by COURTNEY TAYLOR-TAYLOR from the DANDY WARHOLS who also duets on  THE COWBOYS DREAM. It's all happening. It often is for Marco and Chris.  They first worked with each other in Adam and the Ants, where they were the Ants and Adam was Adam.  Marco was also one of Siouxsie's Banshees, whereas Chris is from Plymouth which is also very punk.  And in a world where every old punker is on the road with his or her 1970s tunes, Christantinou and Pirroni aren't. So, it's time to ask Marco, why have a new band now when so many people are taking the reunion road. “Because reunions are bollocks!” explains Chris gently. “They're embarrassing. It's like getting back with the same old girlfriend.” But why be a new band? Why not play golf and own a trout farm and get a disease in your back? “Because it's what I love to do. I can't drive a cab so I have to do this,” says Marco, displaying almost some enthusiasm “I have to.” Chris assents to this for once in a blue moon. “I've always been 'you do it or you do nothing'. I agree with Marco. We hate people who are in the middle.” MARRIED TO THE EIFFEL TOWER - named after a victim of objectum sexual disorder, an ailment that afflicts people on Channel Five documentaries - deals very little with people who have wed large constructions. It's a melodic, guitary beaty collection with brilliant songs, from the opening bars of the Sinead collaboration JACKIE, IS IT MY BIRTHDAY? to the final notes. It's filled with references to this modern life of fakes and reality - “Chris has got a thing where being fake is bad.  I tend to disagree,” says Marco with striking unpredictability. “Being fake is the best thing.” And it is quite possible made even better by the post production, mixing and duetting skills of Courtney “So Good They Named Him Twice” Taylor-Taylor. If you've heard and of course you have any of the songs these people have written over the years, you'll know that these are inventive and original men, who write tunes you can whistle with a good bea you can dance to. Chris is engaging and friendly and Marco wants to destroy but they are also pop and artists and pop artists. Tracks : 1. Cat Green Eyes, 2. Mr Sunday, 3.
