God there's tons of interesting stuff coming shooting across the Atlantic at us currently. A box from Olde English Spelling Bee buzzed into the office, narrowly missing the peak of Brett's leather sportz cap and causing all kinds of kerfufflement and excitement before settling down to pollenate Phil's desktop. I've chosen the Black Joker LP (some dude from Skaters) because of its mental skewed, monged desert vibe - it sounds like a well fucked tape of a rave/bazaar in the middle of the Syrian desert on a particularly hot & hazy day, the tape machine seemingly struggling to keep the spools running at a totally regular pace, the eastern wind/pipe instrumentation looping around in your head like a sleepy charm. There's this twatting locked groove in the middle of side one which makes the most fantastic pooting noise, like a space invader after too many Valium. After that music still remains totally relentless, very twatted & completely awesome, a fresh passage suddenly cuts in with no apology, this time percussion heavy but still lo-fi, still trance-inducing, beautifully grainy, fuzzy, blurred, disorientating & maximum fun. Another totally amazing disc from the outer reaches of the US underground. Watch Out!Tracklisting:
