Grand Archives - Keep In Mind Frankenstein

Keep In Mind Frankenstein by Grand Archives

New second album from former Band Of Horses
and Carissa’s Wierd principal Mat Brooke’s current band.

Mat Brooke, formerly of cultish favourite Carissa’s Wierd and the
highly regarded Band Of Horses, re-emerged in 2006 with his new
project Grand Archives. Currently comprised of Brooke, drummer
Curtis Hall, bass player Jeff Montano, and guitarist Thomas
Wright (all four members sing), the band’s debut, ‘The Grand
Archives’, was released on Sub Pop in February of 2008.

At their first show, Grand Archives were bottom band on a mid-week
bill. They played five songs. Next time they performed, it was
supporting Modest Mouse at Seattle's historic Paramount Theater.

‘Keep In Mind Frankenstein’, Grand Archives’ second full-length
album, like much of its predecessor, was crafted at Paradise Sound
with help from producer Ben Kersten (who also recorded ‘The Grand
Archives’). A few friends dropped by during recording including
Brooke’s former Carissa’s Wierd cohorts Jenn Ghetto and Sera
Cahoone, who sang backing vocals, and Jason Kardong, who
added the gorgeous streaks of pedal steel across the wistful sweep of
‘Oslo Novelist’. For the most part, Grand Archives played everything,
especially the weird bits, and while it’s a little darker than the first
record, the album is made up of disparate elements artfully fitted
together and brought to life with affecting results.

Available on CD with mini-gatefold sleeve and gold foil-stamped
print and LP with a heavy, uncoated sleeve, with gold foilstamped
printing with a coupon for a free MP3 download of
the entire album.
