Black Feather is the solo project of former Jaga Jazzist (Ninja Tune/Smalltown Supersound) guitarist Harald Frøland. Silhouette was methodically composed, arranged and primarily performed by him over the course two years in Oslo, Norway. Further contributions by other Jaga-Jazzist members, past and present, including Lars Horntveth, Ivar Chr. Johansen, Lars Wabo and Ketil Einarsen lend to its heavily orchestrated sounds, huge guitars and intricate percussion. It has been a difficult album to release. After nearly two years of postponements from melted hard drives, a corporate label buyout and territory license negotiations, the album found a home with Portland, OR label Other Electricities. Silhouette is a personal yet thematically universal album. Amidst interstitial atmospheres, epic crescendos and sing-song melodies, lies a dark and deep, contemplative lyrical force that transcends each song’s pop-like delivery. Through mythological, scientific, and sociocultural metaphors, the album’s characters reveal thoughts on isolation, betrayal, dissolution, desire and helplessness. Approaching with careful cynicism, Silhouette conveys a familiar, exalting urge to restructure volatile aspects of life and relationships. Tracks: 1. The Cut 2. Shake Me Awake 3. Razor Blade 4. American Zen 5. If You Can’t Feel YR heart 6. Étienne de Silhouette 7. Cool Cloud 8. Ardent Cloud 9. The Ballad of Ion Thief
