Andrew Weatherall - A Pox On the Pioneers

A Pox On the Pioneers by Andrew Weatherall

This is the first ever solo album from Andrew Weatherall. Weatherall should require no introduction, but in case he does (shame on you), here it is: having forged a path against the mediocrity of popular music for nearly two decades by issuing releases under the names Sabres of Paradise, Emissions and Two Lone Swordsmen (both the latter with producer Keith Tenniswood aka Radioactive Man), as well as having produced the now-legendary Screamadelica by Primal Scream, he has still found time to run a number of record labels, notably Sabres of Paradise and, of course, Rotters Golf Club. A Pox on The Pioneers is a career-scanning yet forward-thinking beast of a release, taking clear sonic cues from his status as a dance, techno & house phenomenon whilst skillfully acknowledging his grandly professed love of protest music - Rockabilly, Soul, Rock n Roll - from the mid 20th Century. As Mr Weatherall himself says, I m not purist, I m not precious, it s just about that rock n roll essence, whether it s done with a drum machine or by twanging a guitar. It s just about that swing, that kind of groove, just music that means something to the people that listen to it and the people that made it.
