We got a new single on Fruits De Mer by Mark Fry. I don't know who is he is but I'm enjoying his surname. Apparently he's some acid folk legend but I can't find much info on him on the internet. I thought the internet was supposed to be the fountain of all knowledge! On this 7" are a couple of tracks from 1972 which have been produced and arranged by Nick Franglen (he of Lemon Jelly fame!) all modern stylee. 'Dreaming With Alice' is a gentle slightly fried acid folk tune which is well nice. Not as nice as the sitar laden B side (The Witch) mind you. I'm totally obsessed by sitars these days so anything with one in gets my fat thumbs up! This is well psyched out and wobbly sounding... It's a great tune as well. Highly recommended for both up and coming psych folk kids and aging hippies!!!!Disturbingly beautiful and tranquil, ‘Dreaming With Alice’ is dappled with the same introspectively tinged mercurial magik as once graced the work of Nick Drake. Delicately floral, flowing and fluent, it’s dinked with a darkly haunting aura that serves to captivate and caress the listener. An absolute treasure in a word. Flip over for the aforementioned live take of ‘The Witch’ - awash in the translucent glaze of mysterious Eastern psych mirages, this fairy dust kissed mind melting gem comes bathed in lysergic riff shimmers and breeze driven flute flurries whose remit, it seems, is to have you blissfully transported to some distant spiritualist point tucked far away in the minds eye. Perfection.
