Ekca Liena - Drones Between Homes

Drones Between Homes by Ekca Liena

4...according to our on Thu 27 Aug, 2009.

Drones Between Homes is the new one from former 'album of the week' winner Ekca Liena, released on Under the Spire in their trademark recycled arigato pack thingys and limited to 100 copies. So what's this one like then.. I'm thinking the clue might be in the title. Two long tracks of ambient drone, the wavering frequencies conjuring up images of faltering machinery, flickering lights and quiet nooks and crannys in old, worn down buildings. Fans of all this business will find it a more than healthy purchase. -0eeee-02e-e-02e-0e2-0e2-0e2-0e2-0e2-0ei2-0e2-0e2e-02ei-20ei2-0ei2-0ei2-ei2-0ei2-0ei2-0ei2-ei2-0ei2-0ei2-0ei2-0ei2-ei2ei-2ei2-ie2-ie-2ei-0ie-20ie-2ie-2ie-ei2ie2ie-2ie-2ie-2ie-0ie-2ie-2ie-2ie-2ie2ei-2ei2-ie02ei-2ei2-0ei2-0ie2-ie2-ei2 Sorry I couldn't think of anything else to write so I pretended I was touch typing really fast so Phil would think I was doing something.

I began Drones Between Homes whilst I was staying with friends between moving out of one house and desperately trying to find another. It was a great time being so close to such dear people to me for that month, but I felt quite detached all the same, knowing the situation was temporary and I SHOULDN'T get too comfortable. I made this in Maia's room, which she kindly shared with me whilst I was there (in a shrouded kind of offering of thanks, the titles are a direct quote from her that I thought sounded interesting, although she was speaking about something else at the time I think - I can't remmeber, hazy evening). I started this one afternoon in April when I was feeling particularly bizarre and thought some long droning might settle me. The resulting backbone of the release is directly from the recording that day, with fragments of other synth and guitar recordings layered on top and the field recording placed in the middle to inject something more human into what is essentially a synthetic sounding piece of work.

From me: Drones Between Homes is a 2 track 5" CD in hand ink-stamped, embossed & numbered Arigato Pak recycled card sleeve from Stumptown Printers in Portland. Released in an edition of 100 copies.
