Proper Motion by Towering Breaker

Towering Breaker is a new duo made up of Ben Knight of Helheston and Jack Allett, a.k.a Spoono. 'Proper Motion' is their first LP on Psykick Dancehall, a new label set up by Allett. This righteous display of out right noise experimentation is split into two compositions over one 12" slab of wax. 'Proper Motion' is a seriously strange slice of avant noise that is difficult to pin down but I'll give it my best shot. Primarily made up of found noise loops and obscure sonic tones this piece of music is pretty tense and unnerving. Cymbals and bells are scraped and scratched to create some harsh feedback tones and the vocals act as another sonic texture of agonizing howls manipulated and processed beyond all recognition. It's definitely headphones in your bedroom type stuff if you want to make the most of the subtle changes and the odd sonics. 'Forms Apart In Our Throat' is a little less unnerving, almost uplifting. It begins with chimes, bells and vibes and is a welcome relief from the intensity of the first side. The vocals a whispered oddities that are spooking me out a bit, maybe that's just the lack of sleep. As the composition progresses that feeling of unease returns, well scary. Equally as abstract and inventive as the A-side, Towering Breaker are definitely ones to watch now and in the future.

Proper Motion is the independent movement of stars - minutely observable from Earth over long periods of time - that appear at first to have fixed positions in relation to each otherProper Motion is also the debut vinyl outing for Towering Breaker, the London/Glasgow based duo of Jack Allett (aka Spoono) and Ben Knight (Helhesten). Over an array of tape and cdr releases on labels such as Chocolate Monk, Blackest Rainbow, Curor and Rayon, they have cultivated their taste for dense fog experiments, sound poetry and primitivist outbursts. On this new release TB utilise metalophone, tapes, voice and synth, and whilst still retaining their more twisted moves, celebrate the potential of the rich sonorities of insistent minimalism.
