Super Distortion - Into Space

Into Space by Super Distortion

Who on earth are Super Distortion? They've a double 'A' side CD single on Pointy Bird, and i'm liking 'Into Space'. It sounds well Carnaby Street, like a slice of cute 60s folk pop with a total nobhead of a wibbly keyboard motif that could have been made on an antique games console or even an old touch tone phone! I think it wants to be a bit trippy but i'd leave that job to the other fabulous track, 'The Mystery Prize' It's got a weird, compressed, out-of-time psychedelic aura to it, crossed with the feel of those fucking weird post-punk oddities compiled on the Messthetics comps. The DIY fuzz guitar is incredible and I dig the casual half-spoken vocal delivery and the charming tinpot drums! There's also a degree of junior space rock nous. It's an incredibly simple, hypnotic tune with a totally home made feel and is the kind of thing i'd expect the children of Super Furry Animals to be making. Cute....

SUPER DISTORTION: INTO SPACE/THE MYSTERY PRIZE(PBIRD006)

Into Space 2:28
The Mystery Prize 4:18
99p shouts a starburst on the cover
… but this is priceless! The cover also boasts “double A single”… and who would argue with that? Both tracks are insanely catchy.
Into Space is lo-fi lounge with some brilliant retro organ hooks. The Mystery Prize is a dreamy fuzz-pop classic. He seems to be singing about some sort of sinister psychedelic version of the X Factor or The Generation Game. Complete with a twisted version of the conveyor belt memory challenge at the end.
