Charlotte Hatherley used to be in Ash. That's unforgivable but I'll do my best to get over it and review this single impartially. 'White' is a proper pop single effortlessly sung by Hatherley. It's got a little sheen to it and reminds me of early Cardigans, some Sophie Ellis Bexter singles and also Kim Wilde! So yeah, you get it, this is a proper pop single. B-side is 'White' Pt 2'. I commend bands who write songs in two parts, it's a smooth move. I also commend Charlotte for dragging Tom Jenkinson (a.k.a Squarepusher) into the mix. Jenkinson's contributions are incredibly subtle and skilled, as you can well imagine. He certainly brings a little finesse to the B-side, which sits alot better than the A-side in my humble opinion. Very flamenco jazz inspired playing. Well worth a little looksy, I say.Charlotte Hatherley ex Ash and currently playing with Bat for Lashes releases her first single 'White' from her forthcoming album, 'New Worlds'. Ltd to 500 units on white vinyl.
