Motorpsycho - Child Of The Future

Child Of The Future by Motorpsycho

Fans and critics seemed to agree that their last album ”Little Lucid Moments” showed a band injected with new energy as well as being back to form. Celebrating 20 years this newfound energy will surely be the envy of many younger bands as they now also sound tighter than ever. ”Child Of The Future” consist of six trademark Motorpsycho high energy rockers recorded by Steve Albini in his Chicago studio and bearing the classic hallmarks of great riffs, that driving tractor bass and some truly inspired guitar work. The slightly Zeppelin-esque ”The Waiting Game” is of the mellower sort, recorded at home. Motorpsycho was founded in 1989 when mainstays Bent Sæther (bass, vocals) and Hans Magnus ”Snah” Ryan (guitar, vocals) were joined by drummer Kjell Runar ”Killer” Jenssen. The first album, ”Lobotomizer”, was released in 1991 after which Killer quit and Håkon Gebhardt took over the drums for many years to come. Gebhardt left in 2005 and Kenneth Kapstad joined as a permanent member for last years great ”comeback” album ”Little Lucid Moments”. With ”Demon Box” from 1993, Motorpsycho laid down the blueprint for much of the stoner psychedelia that would spawn a number of bands many years later. Today it´s more difficult to put a tag on Motorpsycho; 70s hard rock comes to mind, there are traces of west coast psychedelia, krautrock, punk, improv, prog rock and more, all melting into that special Motorpsycho sound developed through years of recording and touring. Motorpsycho have always been fans of music dating back to the late 60s and the 70s, also when it comes to production values and presentation. It should not come as a shock to anyone, especially not to the fans, that they have chosen to release this album on vinyl only, at least for the time being. Seeing as it is an analogue recording, engineered by Steve Albini and having a distinctly 70s feel, whether it´s the hardrock of the early 70s or the punk values of the late, it only felt natural to release it on the format that many still consider to be the ultimate sound carrier. We fully support this decision, still a bold and controversial statement coming from a band of this stature. This is also reflected in the many layers of Kim Hiorthøy´s stunning sleeve work.Tracks 1/The Ozzylot (Hidden In A Girl) 2/ Riding The Tiger 3/ Whole Lotta Diana 4/ Cornucopia (...Or Satan, Uh... Something) 5/ Mr. Victim 6/The Waiting Game 7/ Child Of The Future
