Slumberland are doing this split 7" series callled 'Searching For the Now'... Featuring various pop bands they like on limited edition 7". Ah the good old days... Before 3" CD's took over the mantle as collectable nice thing the humble 7" was the king. This one is by The School and George Washington Brown... Both bands you've probably/possibly heard of? The School track is a catchy 50's pastiche reminding me a wee bit of Camera Obscura and that sort of prefect style indie pop. 'And Suddenly' is remarkably catchy but that's possibly to do with the fact it's a Left Banke song. George Washignton Brown you may remember from their van on Caravan Statique. Their track is total lo fi punk pop which is part Guided By Voices and part Superchunk. Once again it's a great little tune albeit way noisier than The School track. Smashing little 7" on black and grey marbley vinyl!Searching For The Now 6 continues to fire on all cylinders with an excellent UK pairing. On side one, Welsh pop mavens The School deliver a smashing cover of late Left Banke tune “And Suddenly.” Taking their cues from Brian Wilson, sunshine pop, and classic Phil Spector girl-group sounds, The School joins Camera Obscura, Saturday Looks Good To Me, and Lucky Soul in bringing ’60s references bang up to date. On side two is George Washington Brown—the latest nom de rock of Pete Gofton, who got his start in teenage sensations Kenickie and has also recorded as J Xaverre. The two songs here are brand new, exclusive, and perfect examples of Gofton’s quirky pop vision, full of production twists and surprising turns of melody.
