The efficiently named Young British Artists are the latest young whipper snappers to have a limited edition 7" record out and I must say for a debut it shows real promise. It's well constructed catchy indie pop. I reckon these could be a band to watch out for. They're getting hyped up and have been touring with Volcano, Asobi Seksu, My Latest Novel, Papercuts, Micachu and Health. 'Small Waves' is available in limited numbered copies on Red Deer Club. Comes with download code.Red Deer Club Recordings is excited to be releasing what is de¬nitely the least Red Deer Club record yet in the form of 'Small Waves EP', the debut 7" from Young British Artists. Bass playing singer Leo and keyboard player Simon are friends from school near Carlisle and met guitarist Sebastian
when they were at university together in Leeds. Forming a close friendship over a love of good music they decided that once they'd graduated, rather than get proper jobs, they'd move to Manchester and form a band along with drummer Benjamin, a friend of Sebastian's from growing up just outside Brighton. With only a dozen or so gigs under their belt since their live debut on October 2008, the months of writing and rehearsing were obviously put to good use as Young British Artists have already earned support slots for Volcano, Asobi Seksu, My Latest Novel, Papercuts, Micachu and Health, as well as performing a three song live session for Marc Riley's BBC 6Music show at the end of April this year. References to shoegaze and the '80snew wave and garage scenes are obvious and not unwelcome but Young British Artists' in uences are broader and their ambitions higher. Their songs are intelligent and emotive, unabashedly pop and performed with energy and conviction. A squall of distorted guitars and vocals are urged along by tight drums and airy synths; developthree minute pop ri s. PRESS: "Slap in the face potential here right from the start... this band are brilliant and could be up for mainstream attention before the end of this year." - Moblog Revue "When it's quiet, expect beautifully intelligent sustained interludes. When it's loud expectfuzz laden noise that clatters along like a metallic merry-go-round." - The Fly "They're turning heads with their sparking indie and rightly so, as it's vital, pulsating stuff." - Chris Long BBC Introducing "Intricate take on My Bloody Valentine histrionics, their arty, often epic crescendos are as ambitious as they are impressive." -Manchester Evening News
