Ducktails - Back Yard

Back Yard by Ducktails

4...according to our on Fri 17 Jul, 2009.

Ducktails have become a little bit of a favourite around here in recent times, especially in Business Lady's dainty little ears, so as a little treat for those of you who've been enjoying his Not Not Fun album Release the Bats have put out Back Yard, a collection of his earliest recordings. Despite the remastering for this CD edition of 500 it's still inescapably super lo-fi and it all adds to the charm of these short, gentle junkyard psychedelia ditties.. To be honest, if it wasn't for that all-important 'feel' this stuff'd be veering worryingly close to inconsequential muzak but the disorientating wooziness and vague air of melancholy ensures that it's tailor made for a bit of relaxing escapism. Hypnagogic pop LOL.

Ducktails is Matthew Mondanile from New Jersey and Backyard is an anthology of his first recordings. Raw-sounding and shimmering 3-minute diamonds, longer trance-inducing journeys into heated minds and blurred visions of the Pacific City... This is laidback music for late, late summer nights. Though being remastered to suit the CD format, the roughness from the casssettes are still here. Included here is all the tracks from the II tape, the 1992 demo tape, the split tape with Mudboy, some stuff from the Dreams In Mirror Field session as well as some new cuts. Total playtime of 73 minutes. Glossy 4-panel digipack. 500 only made.
