Hell And The Lake Of Fire Are Waiting For You by The Gaslamp Killer

Hey I do enjoy a good mixtape... Well I guess it's CD's these days. This Gaslamp Killer 'Hell And The Lake Of Fire Are Waiting For You' mix has been eagerly anticipated as there's been somewhat of a buzz surrounding this guy lately. It clocks in at just short of an hour and has been usefully indexed into 5 parts. There's no track list though which makes listening fun as you scratch your scalp down to bare skull wondering "What the fuck is this tune???" Expect hip-hop, dubbed out flavors and all sorts of kraut/ psychedelia and esoteric beats all mashed up complete with the odd turntablist trick or two.

Heaviness abounds when the MF-GLK comes to town, so expect both lysergic mayhem and pharmacutical psychosis as our man steps his game way up on this new mix CD, first unleashed upon gleeful headz just a couple of weeks ago at a live show at LA’s seminal Low End Theory jam. Like Curtis said, if there’s a hell below, we’re all gonna go, and when we get there, the planet’s craziest beat fiend Gaslamp Killer will be on the wheels, throwing down the most savage, heavy, psychedelic, WTF-beats to melt your face like an Indiana Jones villain. Loaded full of evil psyche beats, murderous drums, eerie interludes, dark downtempo, wonked-out bonkers, hip hop bumps and and dubstep upsetters, ‘Hell And The Lake Of Fire’ comes over like a sedated interpretation of his current live set, which as any witness will testify is just about the most deranged thing on two decks on God’s fair Earth. Our cadets were lucky enough to see the man conjour up the purplest of haze two nights straight at Sonar, first in front of a few hundred unhinged fans at a heaving Brainfeeder session, then 24 hours later to equal sense-hammering effect in a vast industrial hangar filled with 7000 willing converts. No selector matches GLK for rampant off-tha-hookness right now, as this limited pressing CD demonstrates in vivid style, masterfully mixed, dubbed out, and fucked right up, with some sick scratching thrown in to show there’s real DJ skills lurking beneath the wildman hair. An hour of madness with no tracklist to keep 'em guessing, but quick spots on a first run include everything from Bullion to Can, Jefferson Airplane to Mono/Poly, sweary club favourite ‘C**t Trax’ and plenty more of the kind of thing that sounds like Charles Manson invading Koushik’s worst nightmares. So on it’s off. Vital!!
