Department:S - Wonderful Day

Wonderful Day by Department:S

Limited to 200 copies only. Released on coloured vinyl-style CD. Department S return with a four-track EP featuring Wonderful Day, the latest from the band’s songwriting team Eddie Roxy and Michael Herbage. Alongside original drummer Stuart Mizon on this recording is punk rock royalty - Glen Matlock (the original Pistol) on bass and Marco Pirroni (Adam Ant’s right-hand man) on guitar. Wonderful Day is jam-packed with glam riffing, Hammond organ/brass licks (provided by Terry Edwards who also produced the song) and a kicking feel-good backbeat. We’re owed a good summer and this is going to be the soundtrack for it! Complimenting the lead track is a previously unreleased recording of Clap Now, produced by Mott The Hoople’s Dale Griffin (aka Buffin) and Pete ‘Overend’ Watts. This was to be the follow-up to the massive hit Is Vic There?, but the powers that be at the record label deemed it ‘a great piece of art, lads, but not a single...’ In retrospect a poor decision as Clap Now remained a huge favourite and was one of the tracks the band recorded for their John Peel  session in 1980. It’s good to hear the late, great Vaughn Toulouse on such good form on vocals, too. My Coo Ca Choo - Single Of The Week in Organ Magazine (“Outrageously brilliant!!”, they said) - marked Department S’s return to the recording studio recently, and labelmate Micko Westmoreland’s remix is included here for the first time in physical format, the track only being available as a download before now. The full-length version of the lead track rounds off the EP in style. Naturally. There are five colours to choose from - red, green, orange, black and blue - another well-dressed release from Sartorial. Well, you wouldn’t expect anything  else, would you? Tracks : Wonderful Day (radio edit), Clap Now (previously unreleased Mott Production), My Coo Ca Choo (Micko Westmoreland remix), Wonderful Day (full length version)
