Stones Throw producer and deejay extraordinaire Koushik follows up last year’s 2CD set ‘Bright Moments’ with another double header, this time showcasing some of his choice, original beats and remixes. Created as an extremely listenable mixed sampling of beats selected from five different projects (including three forthcoming albums, unreleased tracks, remix instrumentals, library music beat tapes, and sounds from very limited edition 45 projects), ‘Mixobeats’ is more of a composed soundtrack of Koushik’s production career to date than your average beat CD. Clocking in at nearly 80 beats in just over an hour, Koushik seamlessly mixes the gamut of straight and classic hip hop, electronic excursions, funk / rock beats, and his trademark psychedelic mellowness, all to great and lasting effect. Also includes a second CD of ‘Mixoremixes’, a 50 minute 20 track selection of many of Koushik’s personal favourite remix projects from 2001 to 2008, including work with Percee P, J-Rocc, Four Tet, Dooley-O, Beastie Boys and others. The sound in evidence, much like its creator, is a diverse one that launches from a foundation of classic hip hop and enjoyably diverts into electro funk and drum-heavy folk.
