I don't think I've ever heard Spoon before. They've done a bunch of records on Matador and they've always been one of those bands that I've meant to check out and missed. I think I've missed the boat here as well as catching them as they've signed to a major (Anti owned by Warners) means they're onto more commercial territory (as a rule). Anyway their new 7" 'Got Nuffin' is very chuggy. The guitars chug over a sparse riff and repetitive basic drumbeat. The vocals carry pretty much all the melody. If you're into US alt rock then you'll probably like this, certainly on 2nd listen it's a wee bit better. I do quite like the plonky piano which pops up in the background and the skronky chorus guitars so it deffo has its moments. Limited edition 3 track EP. The first new recordings after Spoon's acclaimed 2007 album 'Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga'.
