Azalia Snail - Petal Metal

Petal Metal by Azalia Snail

Petal Metal opened a new musical universe to me, where someone I
didn't know had listened to, or been directly influenced, by bands I
knew and loved, and I'm guessing bands and things I don't know, and
then applied her own strong magic to her experiences and made music
that felt familiar and strange in equal parts. Strong songwriting,
great noises in the right places, both perfectly balanced the way
Datapanik Pere Ubu did it and that's a rare gift to have from the
first single. I'm nearly fifty and the chance of me playing any CD new
or old more than twice in a day are near zero, and I presume double
near zero for a double. Petal Metal replaced everything else musical I
was in the process of discovering the weekend I bought it. I don't
have a favourite out of the two CDs or a favourite song, everything on
Petal Metal makes a choice like that an impossibility to me as the
universe it opens is pretty much perfectly formed through all of the
songs. It's a journey I'd recommend to anyone, and do.
