New Cassettes - The Art Of...

The Art Of... by New Cassettes

2005 brought us many things: Live 8, the birth of YouTube, Lance’s Armstrong’s record 7th straight Tour De France victory, but more importantly, the birth of the five-piece Northampton natives, New Cassettes.

The band have already played a plethora of high profile gigs that included playing to over a 1000 mud-splattered revellers at Glastonbury 2007, wowing critics and fans alike at the BBC’s Electric Proms, as well as appearances at Lattitude, Wireless, and Summer Sundae.  The band have also supported the likes of The Strokes, We Are Scientists, Idlewild and Howling Bells.  That’s not all - they also reached the final few in Channel 4’s Road to V competition, whose past winners include The Young Knives and Bombay Bicycle Club.  All of this experience has helped to establish them as great live act!

Their first single, You Won’t Stop, was released on Fantastic Plastic Records, home to The Guillemots and iLikeTrains.  It instantly became a favourite of Radio 1 DJs and tastemakers Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq, and was also featured on Channel 4’s popular comedy The Inbetweeners.  The follow-up single, Recover/Retreat, was released at the end of 2007 on Last Space Recording, the label of Mercury Music Prize nominees and fellow Northampton band Maps, gaining the band further critical acclaim and plays on Radio 1, BBC6 and XFM.  This left them sitting nicely as Myspace featured artists alongside a Radio 1 front page feature.

After spending the last year crafting their sound, they are now ready to release their debut album The Art Of… to the general public.   The ten track album clocks in at just over half an hour and in addition to featuring their two previous singles it also contains last years download-only single, Hearts Don’t Beat Right.

With the album ready and a Japan release date planned, it’s all hands on deck for the band!

Tom Stubbs (Vocals), Nik Gray (Guitar/Vocals), Owen Reed (Guitar/Vocals), Tommy Francis (Drums), and Dan Battison (Bass).
