Earth are back with a new live album on the label who really care about their fans... yep Southern Lord. I went to see Earth a while back with Bretty and we ere both underwhelmed by the whole thing. Maybe it wasn't loud enough but it all felt a wee bit disappointing. I was expecting to be crushed under the majestic weight of their collective noise but it was more like a kitten coming along and licking you. It's weird cos I like the new stuff... the whole slo mo country thing currently sits cofortably with me. I think I recognise almost all of this album from the gig they played as well. Radio Live is a paltry 4 tracks for 20 quid ish but then packaging is nice and the tracks are reasonably long. If you liked the Bees Made Honey style of slowed down bleak Americana then this is really very similar albeit with that live sound. It's hardly an exciting record but it's thoroughly enjoyable and I think it's nice. There I said it... it's nice. In the interest of documenting exceptional and vibrant live performances by our artists, we are proud to present an exclusive vinyl-only live album from Earth.
This 180g vinyl comes housed in a beautiful cloth-like textured heavy-weight cardboard sleeve with metallic silver foil printing. Limited to just 700 copies in Europe, this is sure to become highly collectible and sell out fast.
Radio Live is comprised of two tracks from a live radio broadcast on KFJC (New Years Eve 2007) and two tracks from a live performance in Vienna on their 2008 European tour. Of particular note is that Trey Spruance (Secret Chiefs 3, Faxed Head, Mr Bungle) plays baritone guitar and sitar on the KFJC recordings. The sound quality is incredible and crystal clear. Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Boris, Kinski) was the live sound engineer and the recordings were ultimately mastered by Mell Dettmer.
Track Listing Side A 1.Engine of Ruin (Live In Vienna) 2.Omens and Portents II: Carrion Crow (Live at KFJC) Side B 3.The Bees Made Honey In The Lion’s Skull (Live at KFJC) 4.Junkyard Priest (Live in Vienna)
