I reckon Fists might have won the Sleeve of The Week award with their 'Cockatoo' 7". It's so good I genuinely don't know where to start so I'll move right along to the music - it's keyboard heavy indie pop, which I'm always happy to hear a bit of every now and again if I'm honest. Coincidentally enough I'm reminded of a far gentler take on that organ-driven Monks sound heard so wonderfully on that Black Monk Time reissue from last week.. Also in the mix are little hints of surf and rockabilly but on the whole this brief single is a solid example of a lo-fi pop tune. I've returned to this review five minutes later to confirm: this is actually horrendously catchy. We calculate your shipping costs by taking the heaviest item in your order and calculating that at the 'Heaviest Item' price. I love this record.
Read about Fists on Artrocker and heard it on the radio. It's on my list of Must Haves that I'm waiting to buy come payday.
Cockatoo reminds me of The Breeders a bit in the vocals and Skit makes me think of Clinic. Good stuff!
So, what do you think?
