Legion of Two is Irish electro don Decal & a fellow Green isle resident called Dave who likes bashing skins reet loud, like. Hello Dave! They've combined forces to unleash a doomy instrumental onslaught called 'Riffs' which is quite untypical of the normal music associated with Planet Mu, the label who've given them a home. The drums are played with considered yet rock hard tension whilst the electronic side of things is about as far from Alan Boyle's normal template of tough party electro for which he is famed. The second track features his trademark synth blips but sounds much more like an evil, brooding update on Add N (to X)'s eerie percussive electroid rock. The end result of this experimental axis is some interesting proggy jams & quasi industrial moodscaping that on certain tracks works very effectively, the juxtaposition of live percussion & fizzing hardware being nothing new, sonically, yet I can see where they're heading although the approximation of a slowed down Holy Fuck isn't exactly the groundbreaking sound I was hoping for. 2xvinyl & compact discette. Legion Of Two is a new project from Dubliners Alan O’Boyle and David Lacey. It pits electronics against live drums and percussion for a very dark, dense and noisy dirge. Huge basslines, slow pounding drums and feedback dominate.
Industrial, dub and metal influences are shredded through old guitar pedals and cheap reverbs and re-assembled into a driving and melodic force.
Alan O’Boyle is best known for his work in electronic music as Decal with a catalogue of EPs and albums on labels like Satamile, Planet Mu and Rotters Golf Club covering electro, techno and experimental music. He has also been involved in recording, production and/or remix duties with the likes of Redneck Manifesto, Two Lone Swordsmen, Jape, Super Extra Bonus Party and many, many more.
David Lacey is a Dublin based drummer and percussionist who has been behind a drum kit in some capacity since the late eighties. Since 1997 he has been heavily active in improvised music collaborating with local and international musicians and is also one of the driving forces behind the I+E Festival in Dublin.
