First up to accompany me melting into a pool of sweaty filth we play the soundtracks to Norman J Warren's 'Terror' and 'Prey' movies. These 1970's UK horror movie OST's by Ivor Slaney have never been issued and come on one LP each taking up a side and also on CD. It's a real mixed bag of eerie synthesizer stuff, piano, straight up tunes, weird jazz, bits of dialogue, short interludes and incidental strangeness. I've never seen any of the films but they look cool. The Prey blurb reads "Carnal Lust That Defies Expectation" which made me chuckle. There's an ace short evil sounding track with birds tweeting on it that's followed by a freaky analogue synth and collapsing piano workout that's one of the highlights of the record. You have to wade through a few not so interesting bits but when you reach the good stuff it's really rewarding. One for the crate diggers that like library music and such obscurities.’Moscovitch Music’ is the new label from record archeologist & one half of cult exotica group ’Quiet Village’, Joel Martin & is an outlet for all the weird & wonderful music you’ve never heard before from obscure film scores to ecological jazz!
The 1st release compiles the unissued film soundtracks to legendary UK Horror director Norman J. Warren’s late 70s movies ’Terror’ & ’Prey’ both composed by one of TV & Radio’s most prolific arrangers, Ivor Slaney (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Double Deckers, Ren & Stimpy Show, De Wolfe Music Library) & features dark proto synth-wave, electronic hip-hop, folk-soul & dirty cabaret rock.
Joel was one of the first record collectors to compile ost/library music back in 1997 on the legendary ’Bite Hard’ LP (BBE) , a retrospective of the famous ’De Wolfe’ label & has since been sampled by the likes of Jay Z & Kool G Rap. Joel now works for ’De Wolfe’ as head of their reissue dept & they have just released the album ’Kung Fu Super Sounds’, a retrospective of the ’Shaw Brothers’ cult martial arts films from 1975-1984
Joel also conceived & compiled the unreleased score to George A. Romero’s classic zombie film ’Dawn Of The Dead’ which was issued on Trunk Records in 2004, to critical acclaim.
’Terror/Prey’ includes 35 unheard tracks, a beautiful full-colour 12-page booklet complete with rare stills & sleevenotes from the director Norman J Warren & Cherrystones.
Vinyl limited to 1000 only for the world.
