What we say about E no naka no sora ukabu niwa, by Aritomo

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.

That wonderkin is back with a brand new album. Yup! Aritomo's 4th LP lands at the towers in a massive box from Japan with a panda on the side. I love getting boxes from Japan! Especially when they're full of limited Japanese private pressings of a brand new Aritomo album!! It's called 'E no naka no sora ukabu niwa' which translates to 'The Flying Garden in the Painting'. In case you're unaware of Aritomo he's a musician, painter and sculptor. There are 2 editions of this brand new album factfinders. There's a regular version (which looks amazing) which comes in a weapons grade thick card board sleeve with some top artwork stuck on, inserts inside etc.. well tasty! The more expensive version (which we only have a handful of and looks even more amazing) is a screen printed gatefold and is well worth the extra few quid. I think there's only 30 or so of those out of the entire pressing of 250 so they won't hang around for too long. Whichever you choose you won't be disappointed by cos half of the joy of an Aritomo album is the artwork and he spends so much time assembling the blooody things. He's a talented fella alright and on his fourth album he continues with some of the most personal and fragile sounding acid drenched folk I've heard in ages. There's a strange ethereal quality to his music... it literally sounds like it's floating away as you're listening to it. It's lighter than air... if you're after a food related equivalent I'd go for an aero (well bubbley.) I'm on my third listen now and I'm starting to think it's ludicrously good. If you're a fan of ghostly spaced out sounding folk which is more delicate then a some hundred year old ladyfingers this is for you. I love it!! There's some delightfully delicate finger plucking on the ole guitar work on this album which is proper doing it for me. Fans of Time Lag/ Locust/ Fonal etc will get off on this album big style. I can still see the pixies and unicorns! If you don't have a record player Beta Lactum Ring picked up on him a while back and are starting a reissue program. The first album is available on CD now (long gone on wax tho..) and is well worth picking up! You should check this guy out!

What the label says about E no naka no sora ukabu niwa, by Aritomo:

I don't have a press release for it. However, I can answer question concerning the LP. I recorded this between October 2008 to March 2009. Like other my LPs, it was taped by only me. All musical instruments and all voices by me. The music is the story of about "the person who entered in the painting and became the golden sand" and "the girl in the painting which lost one eye" in the flying garden of the painting. I used the South American mandolina which I got in Peru. And I made the photos which I photographed in Peru materials of the artwork. - Aritomo
