We picked up the last handful of copies of a release by Talvihorros this week. 'It's Already On Fire' was originally released in a limited edition of 100 last November and the first time I heard it my ears pricked up. Even before I heard it I was struck by the sleeve as there's some something really simple and enchanting about it. Musically it's a mish mash of styles encompassing, real proper instruments made of matter, feedback, static hiss, tinkles, drones and electronics. I like this a lot.... I guess it's just more bedroom electronics but whoever has made this clearly has 'the ear' as they've managed to create something pretty fresh sounding. A lot of the songs build and build to create some reasonably unique sounds. It's all very cinematic as well and there's even some neo classical piano treatment chucked in for good measure. Check out Torrach for a bit of Max Richter style misery. It's really rather nice!!Talvihorros creates textural ambient music with organic instruments, deconstructed and augmented with the use of both analogue and digital processing.
Debut album 'It's Already on Fire' was released on 3rd November 2008 with an initial pressing of 100 hand-made and numbered copies.
Influenced by Satie's minimal piano work and Steve Reich's experiments in minimalism, Talvihorros works with arpeggios and phasing techniques incorporated into experimental rock and folk composition and modern electronic production.
Integrated into this sound is a strong noise aesthetic: feedback, radio static, tape hiss and electronic malfunctions combine to create a unique voice in modern electronic music.
