The Sonic Youth album landed today which meant I was cobbling together all the orders which confused me to the point of near meltdown. Fortunately the light at the end of the tunnel comes in the form of a super tidy review pile and right at the top is a self titled CD on Erobote by Pax Kingz which is the new project from Millimetrik and Maxime Robin. I enjoyed this when we played it for the first time earlier in the week. It's a bit of a change in direction for Millimetrik as there is a lot more emphasis on the bass in these tracks. The guys have apparently been inspired by the UK dubstep scene as well as Flying lotus and fellow cohorts. So imagine Millimetriks melodic electronica stripped back a bit with the bottom end cranked right up. 'Pas De Procrastination' is one of the highlights for me with it's solid hip-hop beats, dreamy synths and rugged growling bass. A top track and a thoroughly enjoyable album.“Bass in you face, London!” These words, born from the
mouth of Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav, are inscribed in the
heads of many.
Among those who’ve heeded this advice are Millimetrik and Maxime Robin, the two artists from Quebec City who form Pax Kingz. Their music is a mix of hip hop and instrumental electro that takes its cues from the British dubstep sounds of Kode 9, Benga and North American wonky highlights such as Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing.
