GOG - Mist from the Random More

Mist from the Random More by GOG

Next up is a CD from Gog on Utech in lovely screen printed white on black sleeve. Gog is the work of Michael Bjella who uses guitar and effects to create his sound which is simultaneously dark and psychedelic. He skillfully sculpts waves of feedback and distortion in a fairly restrained way, managing to hold back from total noise oblivion and create a thick sound that seems controlled and seethes with emotion. The second track is peppered with light metallic drum hits and swishing electronics that give it a lovely trippy hazey feel, with a bassline that's kinda post rock and is really lovely sounding. The track really builds during it's long duration and is simply quite magical. The third and final track has a doomy vibe with slow heavy drums and thunderous cascading noises and pulsating electronics. 'Mist from the Random More' is a quality release from an artist that is new to these ears and certainly has my attention.

GOG is the musical device of guitarist Michael Bjella. And Mist from the Random More is a raw, psychedelic platen. An opaque, finespun paragon of heavy. Built around a lengthy track recorded live at KFJC, Mist becomes a hallucinogenic chimera of drums, guitar, keys and FX pedals that soothes and batters with the same hand. Pressed in a heavy, black paper sleeve screen printed with white ink. Illustration by John Rockwell.
