I got into Flipper through being a Melvins devotee after they did some Flipper covers. My mate Jim picked up Generic Flipper and we got quite into it. They sound totally pissed up and they make me laugh a lot. Domino are reissuing the albums on CD and also the 'Sex Bomb record on 10". Imagine MC5 and the Stooges going swimming in a pool full of Vodka and knocking out some pure filth with ace grinding bassline and sqwaking sax. I must admit though that this is considered one of their all time classics I much prefer the weirder tunes they do with the processed vocals. The record has 2 versions of 'Sex Bomb and 'Brainwash'. They were funny when I saw them at ATP like, the singer looked well fucked off.· "In 1980 'Sex Bomb' became the new 'Smoke On The Water'. What
serious Punk doesn’t know how to play 'Sex Bomb'? That is the
level of influence they’ve had on my generation. They’re important.
Face it and learn” - King Buzzo (Melvins).
· The debut single from Flipper is reissued in a one-off run of only
300 copies, in a vinyl 10” format.
· Features the full length version and the original mix of the
track from band's debut 'Generic' album.
· "It was 1986, the final days of Hardcore. The scene was in its death
throes; the writing was on the wall. Even the hardest-working
bands, like Black Flag and Dead Kennedys, became shells of their
former selves and realized it was time to throw in the towel. Then,
like a cruel joke, came Public Flipper Limited" - Steven Blush,
American Hardcore.
· "A work of such stature produced offspring. ‘Generic’ left a mark on
Cobain too. He took that work and mixed it with his talent for pop
hooks and thus Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’ was born“ - Krist Novoselic.
