Few Nolder - New Folder

Our album of the week (19th June 2009)

New Folder by Few Nolder

Few Nolder AKA Lithuanian producer Linas Strockis has debut album 'New Folder' out on Planet Mu which follows up on a 12" that came out a bit ago. He's a bit of an anomaly for Planet Mu as what he's doing is not the usual style that you'd associate with the label. It's refreshing actually to hear some good quality deep house/ techno/ disco music. He keeps things fairly simple and funky but there are some really nice flourishes in the production with a great balance of trickery while keeping it soulful and human. 'El Snig' features vocalist Rut and is a fine example of modern house music, updating a classic sound with the benefits of advanced technology. The vocal is particularly sweet on this tune. I'm getting quite into the ultra slinky grooves on here, the beats are kept quite simple and there are some big basslines. He definitely has his own sound with a lot of the tracks having a really timeless feel. I'm not sure how well it'll go down with followers of the label but everyone in here's commented on the quality and I can heartily recommend this album! Note that the vinyl's only missing one track from the CD release which is a bit of a victory with Planet Mu vinyl these days!

*  Few Nolder is the alias of one Linas Strockis of Vilnius, Lithuania. In 2001 at the age of 16 Linas quit his career as a professional piano player and was drawn into the world of electronic music.

*  Following several releases on Lithuanian label Partyzanai, Few Nolder made a surprise guest appearance at the Planet Mu 200th release party. This was followed shortly by his debut single on Planet Mu "No Mo" in February 2008.

*  Now Planet Mu release his newly-finished debut album "New Folder". Experimenting with off-kilter micro-house and druggy wonk, Linas gives us a simple beat around which he flips deceptively simple synthline progressions which grow into monolithic riffs. At the crux of Nu- disco, Dubstep and Techno, and using local vocal talent, Linas has a truly forward looking European sound.
