I must be going soft in my old age as I'm starting to quite like Jack Penate. God knows why..... at home I'd never ever listen to it but in these 4 walls it really doesn't bother me. The last single Tonight's Today was so ludicrously catchy that I couldn't help but like it. 'Be The One' follows a similar paths. Yeah it's big, yeah it's brashy, yeah it's commercial and more polished than the queen's helmet but there's something about it that I can't dis (and I always want to dis things...) It's not quite as catchy as the last single but if you want some summery up beat disco flavored indie pop then this will keep you happy for a wee while.Though both tracks share the same timeless, dancefloor
informed feel, ‘Tonight’s Today's’ blissed-out house
grooves give way to bold, swaggering soul on this Paul
Epworth produced single.
Featuring walls of anthemic brass and a skyscraping
chorus, ‘Be The One’ again finds Jack sounding inspired
and full of confidence.
It’s another pointer to the depth and variety of his
forthcoming second album ‘Everything Is New’ which
has been recorded over the last twelve months in Paul
Epworth’s home studio.
