OVERVIEW: Prog metal behemoths Mastodon, release the vinyl LP edition of their 4th album, 'Crack The Skye' on June 1st on Reprise Records.

Mastodon will tour Europe with Metallica this summer. In addition, they have been invited to perform as part of the Sonisphere Touring Rock Festival this summer in the UK with Metallica, Linkin Park, Lamb of God and more. They will also be playing a series of intimate UK headline dates in June.

Recorded in their hometown of Atlanta, GA with producer Brendan O Brien (AC/DC, Pearl Jam), 'Crack The Skye' takes you on an epic journey from start to finish. One that involves astral travel, wormholes, and even Rasputin.

Since forming in 2000, Mastodon have essentially lived on the road. After non-stop touring, the band, Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher,
Troy Sanders and Brent Hinds decided to record a demo, which would ultimately be released in a shortened EP form on Relapse
Records as 'Lifeblood'. The success of the EP spurned more touring, and even greater success. Their first full-length album
'Remission', followed in 2002. True to form another round of touring ensued and then 'Leviathan' - an album critics were quick
to embrace.

But it's with the band's legion of fans that they have really delivered. Mastodon's "blue collar" touring ethic has earned them constant accolades from fans that have grown accustomed to their accessibility, approachability and dedication as a working mans band. Rare is the artist who achieves that critical balance coupled with the level of fan support Mastodon have attained. 'Blood Mountain' was released in September of 2006 to critical acclaim and was also nominated for a Grammy award.

If you can get over the voice of the lead vocalist, it's a lot easier to enjoy this album. Mastodon's fourth album was the first I've ever listened to, so again, the expectations were not there at all.I was impressed though, some really catchy songs on this album have really converted me into a fan. I first side of the vinyl LP is one of the best sides that I have ever heard on an album.
