Mr 76ix
Spirit Of Man
A Norman Records recommendation (3rd July 2009)

This record left our Brian feeling happy.
'Spirit of Man' is the new EP waxing from Mr 76ix, Skam's secret star in waiting. We really like his stuff up here cos he's a true Northern electronic maverick & doesn't have to rely on the tedious Warp hype machine to shift copies of his records. He's got that distinctive Skam sound, acid flecked juddery electro & whipcrack breaks, tight editing & isn't afraid to bend towards the sinister (ah) with dark, spectral keys yawning eerily all over the place. His compositional style can be quite free too, like on track two with the onus on being on creating a mood or a journey rather than "songs" or club banger traxxx. This new 12" also takes in ghostly cut-up 2-step ala older Planet Mu gear & abstract breaks that bring top mind the more accessible Hymen releases. The EP concludes with a melodic slice of airy, poppy electro that reminds me of why I got into electronica in the first place.....Nice return
