d_rradio - Leaves

Our album of the week (15th May 2009)

Leaves by d_rradio

Another stonker in this week from Japan's Symbolic Interaction label. This one is a brand new 2CD opus from d_rradio. Double cripes! Despite 2 disc sets taking up a lot listeing time when there's so much music to listen to out there I'm quite into them at the mo. It's like double the fun... especially when they're only 8.19 which is about the same as a pint costs these days. From the off the opener lulls you into a warm dense dark orchestral drone which sucks you in to the point of acceptance that you're just gonna have to get it. It did it for both Brian and me within minutes. I guess the inital obvious comparison is the more recent Stars of The Lid stuff what it being a bit more orchestral sounding and all warm and droney. Elements of the ambient end of Brian Eno are apparent too... It's very melodic and there's quite a lot going on really for the sort of music that it is. It's a peaceful uplifting experience which is something I've not had in a while. it's absofuckinglutely gorgrous and if you're into ambience and drone then you need this. Fans of Brian Eno, Stars of The Lid, Williams Basinski, Harold Budd, the Infraction label will lap this up like starving kittens (not being cruel to kittens but I feel the starving thing was necessary to get the point across). Dense waves of drone and melody are battering me sideways. Man I like this!! It's a total change of direction from the artist but it's welcome and it clearly proves how much of a talent he is. Leaves is out now on a 2 disc CD only set!! cHecKiTfUnsTICks.
