Our single of the week (29th May 2009)
...according to our Brian on Thu 28 May, 2009.
Am I to assume that's Aaron Funk's vocal on his new Venetian Snares EP, 'Horsey Noises'? A complete turnaround from recent Acid Techno munching album 'Filth', this bizarre EP finds him in juddering braindance funk territory, much more danceable/accessible than some of his recent endeavors. The lead track has a strong monged electro feel, some of the synths & drum patterns sound quite AFX, reminiscent of a slowed down Tuss track but overall the style reminds me of the recent Tim Exile gear but erm... Better. And funnier! The 2nd track is a jittery electroid techno bomb designed to twat your gizzard off on a dancefloor. 'Pig Dync' is a kicking acid track along the lines of Ceephax with loads of woozy mad programing genius holding it all together. The final version of 'Horsey Noises' appears at the end, a slightly more berserk floor ripper stacked with his usual barrage of intense leg twisting propulsive rythyms but a distinct enjoyable groove to it. Most fun I've had from a Snares EP in years.....CD/12"* Hot on the heels of his new album, April’s "Filth", Venetian Snares a.k.a. Aaron Funk is back with his new four track E.P Horsey Noises. The title track includes a vocal, and the b-side includes a remix of that song.
* Venetian Snares has just completed a European tour with over 15 dates promoting the album and E.P including a headlining date collaborating with John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist) as "Speed Dealer Moms" at the Bangface weekender.
* With over 17 years of recording experience under his belt, Funk has racked up a collection of releases on Hymen, Coredump and Sublight. His Planet Mu back catalogue now stands at an impressive 15 albums and 6 singles; a testament to his creative ability and long standing popularity. Either that or we still just love his music and want to keep releasing it.
