'Wave If You're Really There' is the debut album from Merseyside based Wave Machines. I was pretty impressed by single 'Keep The Lights On' with it's funky bass line and Hot Chip-esqe moments so I was happy to see 'Wave If You're Really There' in my review pile. I reckon these guys share a lot in common with Hot Chip in general, you see they craft proper pop music (Paul McCartney style!!!) but they've got a flair for flowering up arrangements and using electronic elements that make them sound modern and impressive to the yoof. The production is big (real big!!) and the vocals are pretty smooth too, shifting from a warm chatty style (Punk spirit) to a light pop melody ('I go I go I go') punctuated with the occasional falsetto. Previous single 'I go I go I go' it's irritatingly catchy and sounds like money money money yo! So in conclusion, Wave Machines are one of those ambitious pop groups that know how to write songs, play guitars and program a drum machines and they do all these things very competently. Shouldn't disappoint anyone who enjoys a little Beck, Hot Chip and maybe even Scissor Sisters.Tracklist:

Description:
Mercurial Merseyside four piece Wave Machines release their debut album Wave If You're Really Here on 15th June. With their English melancholia pricked by impudent promise… Wave Machines join that eccentric lineage of home grown musical adventurers; XTC, The Beta Band, Hot Chip. The white-boy-funk of Greatest Escape We Ever Made and The Line, the passive aggressive anthem on Punk Spirit; and the delightfully re-imagined pop of I Go I Go I Go and Keep The Lights On, Wave Machines debut is a riot of genre crushing, and shape-shifting alternative pop.
