Nathan Fake
Hard Islands

This record left our Ant feeling happy.
Nathan Fake has a quality 6 track mini album 'Hard Islands' out on Border Community. I quite like this guys style, aimed at the dancefloor it is essentially 4/4 techno that keeps twisting and turning but never fucks around too much and keep that groove going, it's melodic and uplifting and at just the right tempo to get you shaking without looking like a gurning lunatic. There are cool little blips and acidic squelches and big synth sounds. He's really not following the pack at all in terms of what's happening in techno i.e. boring minimal and loads of diluted dub techno. I like the fact he has his own thing going although some of the more quirky bits remind me a little bit of some Cristian Vogel stuff. All quality stuff here that's equally suited to home listening. 2x12" vinyl and CD.

What their label says...
Hard-edged, confident new album from UK electronica star Nathan Fake: melodic,
musically ambitious and pushing the European techno blueprint ever forwards.
· Edges towards the tougher end of electronica occupied by Warp
and Rephlex stalwarts Clark and Aphex Twin, where spinetingling
melody meets Fake's acute awareness of what works on
the dancefloor.
· 'Hard Islands' showcases a tougher, more grown-up
sound than his hugely successful 'Drowning In A Sea Of
Love' debut, as Nathan Fake continues to mature in perfect step
with Britain's youthful new wave of danceable electronica.
· Fake has recently supported Squarepusher and Kieran
Hebden & Steve Reid, and is performing an extensive
European club and festival tour this Summer.
· Each track can function as a hedonist's anthem in its own
right, optimised for maximum dancefloor impact after
evolving
