Magic Arm - Make Lists Do Something

Make Lists Do Something by Magic Arm

OK I know nothing of Magic Arm at all. I know we've had a few records in by 'em before and I was probably in the room when they were played but I'm normally oblivious trapped to my surroundings. That's the punishment for being in e mail hell where you're live in a fluorescent tunnel of e mails. So I thought I'd check out the new album 'Make Lists Do Something' which is on Switchflicker records. It also appears to be on Peacefrog and Wooden Log Records. Hell I'm confused but I like the whole log thing.... the word log has been a staple in my vocabulary since about 13. So what does it sound like?? It's quirky bedroom electronic acoustic pop along the lines of Kid Carpet, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, Mugison etc. There's some catchy tunes on there. Bootsy Bootsy has the sort of chorus you'll be humming days later and wondering what on earth it is. Then it will slap you in the face and you'll play the rest of the album and realise it's actually pretty good. It's playful and fun without being annoying and the chap has a pleasing voice. I'm pleasantly surprised. Check it face aches...

So much music is safe, predictable, a commodity, but Magic Arm is here to remind you
that music can still be liberating, messy and powerful.

What the critics are saying: “Hovering between the more
playful side of early Beta Band and the Fisher Price
folktronica of Kid Carpet, while musically Magic Arm is
often-igniting bleeps, lyrically ‘Make Lists, Do Something’
is awash with vulnerable depth” - Clash Magazine;
“Signed to the same label that gave us the Tings Tings,
Marc Rigelsford is an exciting new talent to keep an eye
on” – IDJ; “Magic Arm is a Beck Style Maverick too
restless for one musical guise” - The Metro; “‘Make
Lists, Do Something’ is absolutely fantastic” - Lauren
Laverne, BBC 6 Music. Samuel Beam of the much
loved Iron & Wine has hailed Magic Arm “the master
of the loop pedal”.
