God Help The Girl - Come Monday Night

Our single of the week (8th May 2009)

Come Monday Night by God Help The Girl

5...according to our on Thu 07 May, 2009.

There was a time when I would have gladly smashed Belle & Sebastian in the face. I just couldn't do with the insipidness of it all. Now I'm older and wiser (and less angry) I can cope with a bit of 'em here and there. It's what I call a proper turnaround. Hey it doesn't happen that much. I was wrong... they were actually pretty good you know.... Mind you I still want to kick Darren Hayman off the face of the earth though. Anyway Stuart Murdoch of B &S has a new project called God Help The Girl which features the vocal talents of Catherine Ireton. It's gentle orchestral indie pop with strings and acoustic guitars and a general light demeaner. In fact being all British (and non violent) I'd say this was a delightful little single. Catherine is singing in a very Stuart Murdoch way so if you're a fan of B & S you'll more than likely warm to this in a jiffy. The flipside is called 'Howard Jones Is My Mozart' which endeared me greatly to the whole thing. It's a weird sort of spoken word thing set of some old regency period style shennanigans and now all I can think of is Keira Knightly... Limited debut release
