Unlabel have a new tape out by Kyote and there's only 20 of them, which isn't many is it? Especially when it's good. It seems like Engagement is a compilation of studio bits, remixes (including some by the likes of Part Chimp and D. Bateman), live stuff and demos so by the end you kind of feel you've got a total handle on where the guy/s coming from. Which pretty much seems to be a shed with 'US indie rock' written on the side in biro so small only dogs can hear it. Bits of Slint come through in the guitar and largely spoken vocals, occasional patches of Pavement's early super slackness, the occasional Sonic Youth interlude etc. etc. I don't know if these tracks are all arranged in chronological order but there definitely seems to be a progression going on here, both in terms of recording quality and songcraft. I give this a 'very good'!The long awaited 10 track collection of Kyote's work from 2004-2006, released on limited edition cassette format.
First edition of 20 copies.
