Sleep helped define the term 'stoner rock' with the release of this album back in 1992, and have since earned legendary status despite splitting in 1995. The band have announced a one-off reunion appearance in the UK in May, playing the whole of 'Holy Mountain'. Two songs from the album were featured in the soundtrack to the cult movie 'Gummo'. Since ending Sleep, guitarist and vocalist Matt Pike has found success with High on Fire, while Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius formed Om.
PRESS: 'Legends in stoner rock circles, Sleep virtually defined the genre’ - Kerrang.
'A perfect balance of grooving doom, Sabs-style riffage and lumbering dynamics' - Kerrang.

...according to joe green.
this was one of the great releases by earache back in the 90s when earache really could do no wrong and every release was a must have (and i did get them all). great sludgy riffs, superb rhythm section, though the vocals/lyrics are a bit dodgy (in a shit/naive kind of way). don't let the vocals put you off, its all about the guitars on this, and they are great. a lot has been written about the sabbath like riffs - they often finished their live shows with a rendition of "into the void" - homage indeed to the great sabbath. this is fantastic stoner rock - for fans of kyuss, electric wizard, orange goblin etc.So, what do you think?
