Elvis Perkins in Dearland presents his new single 'Hey' and sees the group on fine form mixing lush vocal melodies with complex yet uplifting instrumentation. The band are clearly in playful spirits having as much fun as is possible when committing ideas to tape. The group sound comfortably at ease with the presentation of their music. A quality little honky-tonk. 'Hey' is backed by 'Shampoo' which is a little steadier, sharing elements of the song 'House of the Rising Sun' by The Animals, it's got a similar hammond organ sound and dramatic backing vocal. It's got a nice harmonica solo too. Cheeky.· The tracks are taken from Elvis Perkins In
Dearlands’ forthcoming eponymous album, also on
XL Recordings.
· ‘Shampoo’ in all its shimmering blues-tinged glory is
a huge live favourite having been written and
gradually perfected, on the band’s last European
tour, to become the killer opening album track it is
today.
· ‘Hey’ epitomises the new, evolved sound of Elvis
Perkins In Dearland: boisterous, uplifting,
joyous. The sound of four ridiculously talented
multi-instrumentalists and one of the most soulful,
poetic singers letting loose and having fun with
wonderfully sonic results.
