The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Smoking Acid

This record left our Phil feeling happy.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre are back with a brand new 5 track CD/ vinyl EP thing, 'Smoking Acid'. The vinyl is a double and 2 of the sides are etched so you're essentially getting one 12" spread over 2 along with some nice pictures drawn on by some Icelandic dude called Jón Sæmundur Auðarson (thank fuck for copying and pasting eh...). The EP starts with a couple of old style fuzzy Jonestown tracks which sound more like their earlier stuff (from what I've heard) and less like the MBV isms of the last album. Then you get a couple of versions of a track called tempo 116.7 which is a feedbacky tabla beaty monster which sounds an awful lot like the Material stuff Bill Laswell was doing about 15 years ago. It's kind of ethnic but a bit warped at the same time. The EP finishes with Super Fucked which is a 6 minute monster which rocks along and really remins me of Spaceman 3 (apart from the drums which really don't...). If you're a fan you're more than likely gonna be made up by getting your hands on Anton's new wares.
