We all fancied the Scuba remix Jamie Vex'd did on that 12" a while back, it was well quality. So now he's got a new three track 12" out on Planet Mu called the In System Travel EP and it's a prime bit of skirt, no messing. The lead track is a lolling, languid Mark Pritchard/Flying Lotus-esque bit of space station loungestep, saving the bass for the superb 'Radiant Industry' which has the phrase 'Add N To X' floating around the office but is also quite reminiscent of 'Cyclotron' or 'Dirtbox' from Pritchard's Harmonic 313. That one's your party banger! 'Saturn's Reply' is the most overtly hip-hop take on the record and it's brilliantly done, there's so much going on in there but it doesn't feel crowded, everything's in the service of the groove. Business Lady hears some DJ Shadow with those shapely feminine ears of hers. Quite a change from the Vex'd stuff, as the well psychedelic and not-at-all dubstep artwork suggests. Jamie Vex'd is a funny name though, I might change mine to Bretty Cross.

Jamie Vexd is without question one of the pioneers of the Dubstep/Bass scene.

In January 2006 as part of the duo ’Vex’d’, he featured on the now legendary ’Dubstep Warz’, Mary Anne Hobbs’ show (Radio One) with six other artists who went on to shape the face of the Dubstep genre.

Now operating solo, Jamie is an artist who continually pushes his sound and does not follow the crowd. A serious perfectionist, anyone who has heard his Massive remix of Twitch by Scuba will know what I mean.

’In System Travel’ is a deep lush sounding track. Warm and organic in feel, it has a wave of bass that will push you along. On the flipside ’Radiant Industry’ is a full blown space bass adventure. Waves of bass, flickers of light, and space debris everywhere. ’Saturn’s Reply’ has a warm thick bass over a staggered lurching beat.
