King Creosote - Flick The Vs

Flick The Vs by King Creosote

4...according to our on Wed 15 Apr, 2009.

I feel like i should be more familiar with King Creosote and 'Flick the vs' is only fueling my interest. It would seem that Head honcho of Fence recordings and Domino superstar King Creosote knows how to make interesting and fun pop music. 'No-one had it better' is a belter of track and makes for a more than appropriate opener. Catchy vocal melodies and a beefy beat kick starts my listening experience and i couldn't be happier. Things go from great to awesome as the record goes on.....dashes of melodrama, epic ideas, massive riffs, loads of different instruments, sprinkles of electronic shenanigans and cheeky motifs keep me entertained but it's the quality of the song-writing that really wins the day. Vocals are insightful and amusing, full of scottish charm, humour and intellect. King Creosote seems to be one of those super-solo-artists that oozes ideas from every pour and he fits a whole bunch of them on to this record. Did i mention the celeb guests? Steve Mason of Beta band features on a couple of tracks and Jon Hopkin's also makes an electronic appearance to excellent effect. I got the impression that this would be quite lo-fi but on the contrary it's giant record full of big, powerful tunes similiar to Flaming Lips or Doves.....and i mean that in the nicest possible way. Bold stuff. Also comes with an additional cd of bonus material.....not bad.
