This record left our Business Lady feeling unmoved.

'Brakes' are some kind of super group made up of members of other contemporary british bands doing the rounds at the moment, so we've got members of British Sea Power, Electric Soft Parade, Restlesslist, The Pipettes and Tenderfoot all collaborating to make bold, spaced out indie rock for Fat Cat records. Come to think of it this may be a space themed concept record. The cover features u.f.o's surrounding earth poised for an attack or an abduction run then we've got song titles like 'Don't take me to space (man)' and 'do you feel the same?'. Musically it would seem that these guys/gals have taken time out from there regular british indie rock duties to let of some steam and make a traditional American indie rock record. Comparisons to the Pixies, Breeders and various 4AD bands are just and fair with the result being a heavily produced (paul savage of Delgado's produced the album at Chem 19) rock record that pulls no punches. There is nothing innovative or new about 'Touchdown' but it is a very competently put together L.P full of radio friendly tracks that will appeal to anyone suffering from an incureable Mid 90's, indie rock hangover.
