What we say about Touchdown
This record left our Business Lady feeling unmoved.
'Brakes' are some kind of super group made up of members of other contemporary british bands doing the rounds at the moment, so we've got members of British Sea Power, Electric Soft Parade, Restlesslist, The Pipettes and Tenderfoot all collaborating to make bold, spaced out indie rock for Fat Cat records. Come to think of it this may be a space themed concept record. The cover features u.f.o's surrounding earth poised for an attack or an abduction run, then we've got song titles like 'Don't take me to space (man)' and 'Do you feel the same?'. Musically it would seem that these guys/gals have taken time out from their regular British indie rock duties to let of some steam and make a traditional American indie rock record. Comparisons to the Pixies, Breeders and various 4AD bands are just and fair with the result being a heavily produced (Paul Savage of The Delgados produced the album at Chem 19) rock record that pulls no punches. There is nothing innovative or new about 'Touchdown' but it is a very competently put together L.P full of radio friendly tracks that will appeal to anyone suffering from an incurable Mid 90's, indie rock hangover.
What the label says about Touchdown:

Restlesslist, Pipettes and Tenderfoot.
· The band have toured with Belle And Sebastian, The Killers, Buck 65, and
Editors, as well as headlining many tours of their own.
· ‘Touchdown’ was recorded at the legendary Glasgow studio Chem 19 by The
Delgados’ Paul Savage (Mogwai, Arab Strap, Malcolm Middleton) and
mastered by the similarly legendary Alan Douches at West West Side, NY.
· Two singles are being released to coincide with the album – Colin Murray has
fervently supported the first, ‘Hey Hey’, on his radio show, and the song’s
Iseetigers-produced video featured as a Drowned In Sound exclusive before its
universal release.
