Various Production - Trycycle

Trycycle by Various Production

Always with eyes and ears tuned to the future, the ever-prolific Various Production chose now – with their pair of ‘Various Versus’ remix 12”s fresh out the box only last week – to announce their first new material of 2009, opening up a series of 12”s designed to showcase a new focus in their music. Unveiling three tracks of curdled electronic mutations, the ‘Trycycle’ EP lights up with ‘Ramp’, featuring the unique, wildstyle and razor-sharp MC flows of V.E.X., who – despite his previous collaborations with VP – remains a nugget of hip hop treasure, hidden in plain sight and waiting to be discovered, with a rhyming style light years ahead of his contemporaries. You’ll have to listen hard to keep up with his stream of synapse-leaping lyrical reportage, but get familiar and expect to hear more from him with VP at the controls later this year. ‘B-Side’ is a half-time piece of mongrel grime, teeming with twisting synth arpeggios, huge, bright, bumping chords and warped hooks. Finally, ‘Trycycle’ is a thrilling ride on an 8-bit syno-melody that Ryiuchi Sakamoto would be proud of, constantly twisting out of shape then recapturing it’s form – it’s wobbly as hell but no less danceable for it.
