Martyn up now, dubstep pickers. He's a split with 2562 out through the esteemed Tectonic. This is the new "plates" split series, now on the more DJ friendly 12" format. This cut titled 'Yet' reminds me more of the current Bristol sound where a steppy beat carries a broodingly cool bassline along, mixing up liquid funk shades with a searching dubby techno inspired blueprint. It's a smooth groover is this track that stands up alongside the best of Peverelist's gently euphoric floor burners. The digitally monikered one offers up a slinky, slow-burning moody dubber called 'Kontrol' with some nice spacey synths, head shuffling hi-hats & a jah-tastic bassline. Beautifully paced & sweetly executed, this is a quality double header from some highly respected headz of the scene. Respect is due!Tracklisting: a1 : MARTYN - Yet aa1 : 2562 - Kontrol'
Tectonic swings into 2009 at full speed, kick starting dancehalls with the first release in the long awaited Tectonic Plates 2 series. First up is a double Dutch offering from dubstep dons of the deep - Martyn and 2562.
Martyn has made it very clear over the course of 2008 that he is capable of great things - injecting a healthy combination of soulfulness into his tough rolling beats and impeccable bass lines. 'Yet' is on point with warm padded stabs that sound like an android life form talking about the heavy no compromise bassline that soon runs beneath! Dubstep on a Theo Parrish meets Marcus Intalex tip that's not to be misse.d
Flip then for fellow Dutchman 2562's first outing on Tectonic since his astounding 'Aerial' album dropped last year (and has since been charted in numerous Top 10 albums of 2008 by the likes of DJ Mag etc). 'Kontrol' is a restrained excursion in the land of fine tuned 808 hits and pummelling sub bass, absolute perfection with minimal execution. Dreamy pads slip in and out focus as 'Kontrol' (sampled from the all time classic Dan Bell tune
'Losing Control' with the artist's express permission) echoes around over an absolutely devastating bass line - it's a real room.
