Phil intentionally didn't give me the Super Furry Animals Dark Days/Light Years album to review because he went through a phase of giving me all the Welsh releases and thought I might think he's being Welshist on my ass. Then Brett went and reviewed the wrong pile of records leaving me his designated pile to review instead. Not that I mind as I could quite happily stare at the sleeve for a bit. It's got that Ren and Stimpy hippy trippy psychedelic thing happening. It reflects the music on the album with it's 70's rock sound. Decent fun psychedelic pop that reminds Business lady of Ian Drury and The Blockheads. CD and vinyl on Rough Trade.Returning to the kraut/psych/rock vibes of their early years, this album is a glorious technicolour
journey into the mind of Super Furry Animals, jam packed into 59 minutes of acidic pop genius.
Rough Trade Records are delighted to
announce the stunning new album ‘Dark
Days / Light Years’ by Super Furry Animals.
· Since 2007’s ‘Hey Venus’ the band have been
keeping busy with their various side projects,
including Daf and Guto’s acclaimed work as
part of The Peth with Rhys Ifans, Cian’s
forthcoming Acid Casuals release on his Som
Bom label and of course Gruff’s Mercury
nominated work with Neon Neon.

This is their best album for many years and certainly the 'grooviest' they have released. If you love an SFA album from the start, then it is unlikely to be one of their best. This one grew on me after playing again and again and what an album.
These are a very laid back bunch of boys who take their music very seriously, without taking themselves too seriously. I only hope that the music buying public wake up to the knowledge already accepted by the music world, that the SFA are one of the best bands in the world and have been since Fuzzy Logic. They are just so much more inventive than any other band I can think of.
